Best Baking Pan Storage Ideas for A Small Kitchen
When you live in a small kitchen, baking pan storage ideas can make or break your cooking flow. Between cookie sheets, pizza pans, muffin tins, and casserole dishes, it’s easy to let things pile up into a chaotic mess. Without a plan, sheet pans slide everywhere, smaller pans get lost at the back of the cabinet, and grabbing what you need feels like it takes forever. The good news is that you can do a lot with a little creativity and a few DIY solutions. You can transform even a tiny kitchen into an organized space where your baking supplies have a clear home.

En Nuestra Casa
I honestly can’t remember how we stored baking pans before Peterson made us a custom under-sink organization system. I feel like I can safely assume, though, that our under-sink area was an abyss and probably I got super frustrated every time I needed a baking sheet.
Well, all that’s behind us now (I never get frustrated ever about anything in my life these days!) because now we have a beautiful DIY custom-fit baking pan storage system.
In this post, I’ll share our DIY version of baking pan storage as well as some others (including products you can buy if you’re not feeling up to DIY!) to hopefully bring you and your kitchen some peace and calm. Baking should be relaxing, not stressful–right?!
Our DIY Baking Pan Storage System
The first step for us was measuring. We measured the kitchen cabinet space available under our sink, then measured our cookie sheets to make sure they’d fit. Peterson built a simple box insert out of plywood—four sides, no front and no back—that slid right into the lower cabinet. Once the box was in place, we figured out the spacing we’d need for each baking sheet, muffin tin, and cutting board.
To create vertical dividers, we cut thin 1/4-inch plywood to fit inside the box. For a simple way to keep spacing consistent, we grabbed a bunch of the free paint stir sticks from Home Depot. We nailed one stir stick on the bottom and one on top inside the box, then slid in the plywood divider against it. That gave him a guide for where to nail in the next set of stir sticks. Slowly but surely, we worked across the box until we had multiple vertical storage slots.
After sanding and painting, the end result was a set of sturdy vertical dividers that could handle baking sheets, pizza pans, and even our silicone molds. It instantly turned what had been wasted cabinet space into a well-thought-out storage unit.

What we’d do differently next time
As much as we love this system, if we were to tackle it again, we’d probably make the whole unit a pull-out drawer. Having to crouch under the sink to grab the largest sheet pan isn’t always the best way to access things. A roll-out shelf or deep kitchen drawers with adjustable dividers would be the ideal choice for easier access.
We’d also rethink how we store boxes of foil, parchment, and plastic wrap. Right now, they’re stacked on shelves inside the same insert, but a wall-mounted solution or under-shelf basket might make for a better solution.
Why vertical storage is the best way for a small kitchen
Vertical organizers are one of the best options for baking pan storage ideas, especially when you’re dealing with limited cabinet space. Instead of stacking everything in a deep drawer or piling pans at the bottom of the cabinet, vertical storage gives you easy access. You can grab the one cookie sheet you need without shifting five others out of the way.
Vertical dividers also allow you to store baking pans of various heights: muffin tins, cake pans, casserole dishes, and even bundt pans (depending on how large you’ve made each section) can all slide into their own slots. With enough room between dividers, you can even tuck in smaller pans, pot lids, or cutting boards. It’s a good solution for anyone who wants to spend less time digging through cabinets and more time actually baking.

Baking pan storage ideas for standard cabinets
If you don’t want to build a custom insert like we did, there are plenty of great solutions you can buy. Adjustable racks designed for baking dishes and sheet pans can fit into existing cabinets. Many are expandable, so you can customize the width for your space. These racks give you vertical storage without needing to DIY, and they’re especially useful in small cabinets where every inch of storage space matters.
Roll-out shelves are another great idea. They make it easier to see what you have in the back of the cabinet and are one of the best kitchen storage ideas for small kitchens. You can find roll-out shelf kits designed for larder cabinets, pantry cabinets, or even under the kitchen island. The best part is that they’re a simple way to retrofit standard cabinets for easier access.
Other great baking pan storage ideas
- Pull-out drawers in a baking cabinet: Deep kitchen drawers with adjustable dividers can hold baking sheets, muffin tins, and even baking utensils like cookie cutters.
- Toe-kick drawers: If you’re short on space, consider adding toe kick drawers under existing cabinets. They’re a great way to stash flatter items like pizza pans or cooling racks.
- Wall-mounted pot racks: A ceiling pot rack or wall-mounted pot rack isn’t just for pans—you can also store lids, cutting boards, or even smaller pans here.
- Lid organizers: Don’t underestimate lid organizers. They’re a great solution for keeping pot lids and smaller baking sheets upright in the back of the cabinet.
- Under-shelf baskets: If you have a tall cabinet but limited shelving, under-shelf baskets are a good start for adding more storage space without a full remodel.
- Rolling carts: A narrow rolling cart can act as a mini baking center, holding baking pans, mixing bowls, and even small appliances. It’s a beautiful combination of function and flexibility, especially in a tiny kitchen.

Mixing DIY solutions with store-bought organizers
One of the best options for an organized kitchen is blending DIY with store-bought pieces. Our custom plywood insert worked perfectly with a set of metal mesh file organizers we slid alongside it—an easy way to store lids and foil boxes. You don’t always need a full collection of glassware and matching storage containers to feel organized. Sometimes a small change, like adding vertical dividers or an under-shelf basket, makes a huge difference.

How to choose the best kitchen storage ideas for your space
Think about the kind of baking you actually do. If you mostly use baking sheets and pizza pans, vertical storage is the best way to go. If you have a wide collection of bundt pans, cake pans, and casserole dishes, then a deep drawer with adjustable dividers may be the best solution.
It also depends on where you have extra space. The bottom of the cabinet might work if you have a lower cabinet that’s wide enough. But if you have limited cabinet space, look at other zones: a pantry cabinet, the back of the cabinet door, or even a beverage center that could double as a baking cabinet.
Style also matters. In a modern farmhouse kitchen with hickory cabinets or a modern wood hood, you might want storage that blends with the warm wood tones. In a kitchen with a beautiful navy blue island or stunning deep blue paint color, something sleek and minimal might be the best fit. A well-thought-out storage system doesn’t just make things easier—it can look beautiful too.
